Function

According to article 63 (2), The Parliament shall be the principal organ the United Republic which shall have the authority on behalf of the  people to oversee Art.12 and advise the Government of the United Republic and all its organs in the Act No.4 of 1992 discharge of their respective responsibilities in accordance with with this constitution:-

  1. Ask any question to any Minister concerning any public affairs in the United Republic which are within his responsibilities;
  2. Debate the performance of each Ministry during the annual budget session of the National Assembly;
  3. Deliberate upon and authorize any long or short trem plan which is intended to be implemented in the United Republic and enact law to regulate the implementation of the paln;
  4. Enact law where implementation requires legislation; and
  5. Deliberate upon and ratify all treaties and agreements to which the United Republic is a party and the provisions require ratification.

Therefore, The Parliament perform the following functions:-

  • Oversight Function;
  • Representative Function;
  • Legislative Function; and
  • Ratification Function.
