| What's a Whip? |
Whips are MPs appointed by each party to help organise their party’s contribution to parliamentary business. One of their responsibilities is making sure the maximum number of their party members vote, and vote the way their party wants.
Whip is the key person in parliamentary system. The duties of bringing together member of the same political party and other parties are the prerogative of Whips. Standing Orders recoginse the Office of Chief Whips for both Ruling and Opposition parties, as well as the Assistant Whips for both parties.

The 5-years term of the ninth Parliament of Tanzania came to an end on 16th July 2010. To mark the end of his first term in office, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, delivered two hours speech to the Members of Parliament. In his speech titled 'We Promise, We Deliver', he outlined the implementation of the promises of his fourth phase government.
In his Speech, Hon. Jakaya Kikwete said that he was confident that Tanzanian people would renew his mandate to continue with the already started economic reforms, fight against corruption and foster political reconciliation.
